COVID-19 – The situation in Solihull

The situation in Solihull continues to be of concern. Over the last week, the number of cases per 100,000 population has risen dramatically, from around eight to about 63 (as of yesterday). Alongside this, hospital admissions for Covid cases are steadily increasing. Consequently, as you may have heard from the government’s announcement, Solihull (along with Sandwell and Birmingham in the West Midlands) is now on the government’s watch list. We have been designated an area for additional support. That doesn’t mean extra restrictions, as in towns like Leicester and Bolton. But it does mean we need to redouble our efforts to ensure we don’t become one of those places.

So, please do encourage people through your networks to make every effort. Coronavirus is still a very real threat and the message remains simple:

  • Wash your hands regularly.
  • Wear a mask in enclosed spaces.
  • Keep your distance.
  • Get a test and self-isolate if you have symptoms.

The government’s new summary message is HANDS – FACE – SPACE.

If we can all do this, the infection rate in Solihull should start to fall. If it continues to rise, further restrictions are likely and none of us wants that.
